Mushroom-picking basket
In Umbria, mushroom-pickers don’t need a licence. However they are supposed to carry photo ID. I’ll remember that next time someone strides gaily across our land looking for fungi.
There is also a regulation which states that mushrooms must be collected in baskets made from natural fibres so as to allow the spores to fall through and create the next generation of mushrooms.
That’s one of the most sensible and practical regulations I’ve ever heard.
The basket which I bought for picking fruit, but which would actually be too heavy to carry if it was full of apples, is in fact a mushroom-picking basket. I was told this by the man I bought it from.
It’s a very handy basket which I use for all sorts of things. I wanted to take a photo to indicate its size and tried to put Kepler in it. But he wasn’t about to be made ‘cutesy’ so promptly scrambled out and knocked it over, then turned round to sniff it.
