White-spotted rose beetles

A white-spotted rose beetle ‘dumpster diving’ into a lilac bloom

I know Summer has truly arrived when I start finding white-spotted rose beetles eating the flowers.

They favour white and yellow flowers and can congregate in quite large numbers on a single bloom, eating it to shreds.

Black masses of beetles are joined by ants in this totally massacred rose

I hate them with a passion, and crush them whenever I get the chance.
