Beauty and the beast

Ploughshare serapias and fragrant orchid

I came across these two orchids growing cheek by jowl.

The one on the left is a ploughshare serapias and the one on the right is a fragrant orchid.

They could hardly create a greater contrast. One is so ugly it scarcely seems to warrant the classification of orchid, and the other is as dainty as a china teacup and smells like summer jasmine.
