Home > Gardening > Greengages

These are Clive’s favourite fruit. So much so that we planted 3 greengage trees, all with the label ‘Regina Claudia’.

One turned out to have purple fruit (in the style of greengages but not really greengages), another has never had any fruit to speak of (despite having grown into a big tree), and the third has got a reasonable crop this year – nothing fantastic, but enough to assuage the greengage-thirst.

Greengages on the tree

We like to let them ripen on the tree, so the main problem is getting to the sweet, succulent green flesh before the birds do.
