Dug in

Today we received a delivery of wood pellets – a full pallet, 78 sacks – which we hope will see us through the worst of the winter.

Just as well to be ready: there was the first snow on the mountains today.

The dogs immediately took possession of the new lay-out and didn’t seem at all perturbed by the stacks which form a bunker facing inwards towards the stove.

Kepler put in an appearance to see what was going on, then scarpered off again.

His normal place, on the blanket right in front of the stove, is still vacant in the photo but won’t be for long I dare say.

Whether it is Italy or New England, we all need heat. We ordered three pallets of pellets today for delivery on Monday. Our pallets hold 50 bags.

      Where do you store yours?

There are three pellet stoves here on the farm. We have one, and our daughter and family have two. They store some on their covered patio, we store some in our garage, and then we store the balance in the barn.

Lucky you to have the outhouse space. As you can see, we have to use our living space – it feels a bit like being in a ‘fox hole’! Fortunately it’s a big room, and also the sacks are dead handy for emptying straight into the stove.

Pellets of what? and what are they for?
