Slushy snow

Snowy landscape

View from the window this morning

This is the sight which greeted me at 7.00 this morning when I let the dogs out for their ablutions.

I haven’t altered the colour in any way – it really was as monotone as that.

Snow had fallen in the night, and it continued to fall all day today but it was such wet snow that it didn’t stick.

I suspect the ground is so sodden that unless we get freezing temperatures, none of the snow promised over the next 48 hours will stick either.

New blue shoes

Our doctor has advised that my scoliosis will benefit if I wear low heels – not six-inch stilettoes, obviously – just a 2 centimetre raise or something of that order.

I’ve deliberately avoided heels all these years so most of my shoes don’t fit the bill – time for a new pair!

Well-aerated shoes

Well-aerated shoes

Unlike most women (by all accounts) I hate buying shoes, but there’s a shoe wholesaler next to where we had to pick up some sacks of pellets for the stove today, so I thought I might as well kill two birds with one stone.

My feet are freakishly large by Italian standards so I always have to go to the back of the shop.

Almost immediately I spotted the sort of plastic clog worn by nurses in hospitals. I’ve always fancied having a pair and they were actually there in my size.

Apparently you can wash them in the washing machine or sterilize them – not that I really want to.

So far they feel heavy and the raised heel is awkward, but they’ll certainly be well aerated and I’ll be able to rinse them off like a pair of wellies!
