First sign of spring

Only one of its kind

Only one of its kind

There only seems to be one of these wild anemones in the orchard right now.

Soon there will be more although there are never many on this relatively-recently-dug ground.

Apart from flowers which bloom all winter, like speedwell or small yellow hawkweeds, it’s the only splash of colour in a sea of green.

I’ve triangulated it between a peach, an apricot and a cherry tree so as not to trample on it by mistake as I barge through on a pruning mission.

It’s still bitterly cold, especially at night, but with this and the little dots of white on the plum buds, it does seem as though Spring might be round the corner.
