Sculpture in miniature

Sculpture in miniature

The photo shows a little group of the central inflorescences of a faded wild flower – something like feverfew.

It happened to catch my eye and appealed in the way that sometimes a broken shell can, more than a whole specimen.

It could be an exquisite antique brooch made of ivory, mother-of-pearl and gold.

It has precision, but also the decorative abandon of something intended more as design than representation.

It would be too tiny to embellish a ball gown, but otherwise it would do quite well.
