Maremmani

Maremmani

At least I think that’s what they are, the mother barking in the foreground.

They make a lovely tableau under the persimmon tree, two big cuddly white dogs which in rain or snow curl up into fluffy balls.

They wouldn’t be cuddly if you got near. As Maremmani they’re guardians to a flock of sheep and goats and the shepherd claims he’s had a lamb taken by wolves.

Maremmani take wolves in their stride, as a rule, but being chained must put them at a serious disadvantage.
