Meet Florence

A direct gaze

Florence is our new puppy, who arrived last night.

She was found in a cardboard box, along with her brothers and sisters, in a region of the South of Italy where a lot of puppies are abandoned.

Her two black brothers haven’t been adopted yet. Apparently black dogs are always the last to go.

Over the weekend she made a huge tour of Italy as different puppies from the Association were dropped off at their new homes.

Despite her long journey, she was alert and inquisitive as well as outgoing and friendly.

She’s a little unsure about our other dogs (or they are about her) but she’s beginning to knock along with Galileo. She may well be the boss!

She’s jet black, like a black bear cub, with black eyes as well.

I remarked to Clive last night: “How will I know when she closes her eyes?” But I did know!

What a unique coat! So cute.

Nice to hear from you! Her coat is soft as soft and so black that she looks like a cut-out silhouette because no features are visible on her. She’s a darling, but hard work!

The shape of her head with the wavy coat are very unique. Any idea what breed(s) she is? She’s VERY cute!

Her head is, in fact, a very unusual shape – more like that of a bear cub. She’s down on her vet’s paperwork as a golden retriever, believe it or not; the breed seems to be used as a bit of a cover-all here. She has golden-coloured siblings so perhaps that’s why. The people who rescued and advertised her described her as being similar to a Newfoundland, but they reckon her adult weight will be about 25 kg so therefore much smaller. They have no idea what breed or mixture her parents were. We’re looking forward to seeing how she develops!
