Golden and clear gum

Attractive but harmful - hard, sticky gum on a nectarine branch

Attractive but harmful – hard, sticky gum on a nectarine branch

Our poor nectarine tree, which has possibly the most stunningly beautiful blossom of any other tree in the orchard, is a candidate for the chop.

It’s had severe peach leaf curl for many years and scarcely recovered this year.

In addition I’ve noticed shot hole disease and worst of all, now, bacterial canker or gummosis.

A lot of branches have been cut right back which at least means there’ll be less bulk to burn when autumn comes and bonfires are permitted again.
