Cosy nights

Before I get into bed, I always check on Galileo, who sleeps on the carpet on Clive’s side next to Joules.

It’s not that I expect him to be anything other than supremely comfortable.

It’s just that some of his poses are so cute.

Here he’s made himself the perfect little nest in his blanket and is curled up as tight as a snail.

Here he’s on his back, squirming with pleasure at the warmth of Joules’ fur, while Joules himself is out for the count!

Pretty in pink

Pretty in pink

Not heating our indoor swimming pool, and wearing a wetsuit instead, has had one significant benefit.

No mould has formed at the top of the wall and edge of the ceiling where it used to.

Leastways it hasn’t appeared yet, and I don’t think it can be a co-incidence.

Cleaning the mould off the walls with a product which (inevitably) contains bleach, causes the pink paint to fade in blotches and long drip runs. I’d in fact been considering painting the walls partly white because of it.

But now I don’t need to!

Pink doesn’t get a good press. Television programmes about how to sell your house betray a pathological horror of pink décor. Paint it white! Make it neutral!

Someone else will have to do that deed for our huge, cosy room, where the pink matches the curtains, sets off the pictures and the dark red stove, and reminds me of summer roses!

Kepler’s last whole day with us

Kepler has spent 9 hours away so far today. It’s dark and he’s still not back.

I’ve heard him barking in his distinctive way outside, and called him, but he was only trying to entice our other dogs out to play.

Not even hunger has driven him to return. I expect he’s been living it up in the neighbours’ house, cosy on their sofa.

These photos show, in contrast, where our other 2 dogs were at lunchtime today.

A desk by the fire

Clive has been feeling the cold very badly and his trusty oil convection radiator has packed up.

Today we had the brainwave of moving him next to the pellet stove which, although not designed to give out radiant heat, nonetheless feels nice and warm.

His existing desk probably wouldn’t fit in the space and anyway would be a major upheaval to move, so we improvised one with spare timbers from the pool and blocks we didn’t use for the steps.

Clive's new desk (notice Joules underneath)

The set-up looks very cosy and the mat underneath is much in demand with the dogs even when Clive isn’t in occupation.
